Hardcover

Publisher: Project Management Inst (February 2002)
Language: English
ISBN-10: 1880410206
ISBN-13: 978-1880410202

Book Description
This first-of-its-kind publication from the Project Management Institute (PMI®) brings together 28 research papers from internationally known and well-established researchers in project management from around the globe. From them you will glean an insightful overview of past and current research findings, and take an eye-opening excursion along frontiers fertile for future investigation. You will also find a wealth of practical information that you can use now in managing your projects, be they organizing meetings, producing new products, or building skyscrapers.

Here are just a few of the many helpful insights awaiting your discovery within The Frontiers of Project Management Research:

• To know the field, read Project Management literature past and present. Over 3500 project management research articles have been published since 1960—the 1990s produced the largest volume, and certainly the most current information.

• Recognize the importance of measuring project success. Many factors contribute to it, but identifying and measuring the key ones for each project remains a critical, and sometimes elusive, achievement.

• Think project management is challenging now — wait ‘til tomorrow. Project management challenges are likely to increase in the future as projects, project environments, technology, and people relationships grow in complexity.

• Tailor your communications to key stakeholders’ levels of interest and power. Devote considerable time and attention to a project’s key players. Specifically define, demonstrate, and communicate the benefits from investments in project management to senior managers and others.

• Take the time to develop trusting relationships. Research confirms it—trust leads to better client relationships, accelerated time to market, and lower project costs.

• Planning is our most important process. Among all the research articles published in project management over the past 40 years, planning led over leading, controlling, executing, and improving.

Whatever your project management interests or informational needs, The Frontiers of Project Management Research offers you stimulating ideas for tomorrow and innovative approaches from today, all at your fingertips.

About the Author
John W. Gosney is currently the director of information technology for the Indiana University School of Dentistry. He is also associate faculty for the Indiana University School of Liberal Arts, where he teaches a variety of literature and English courses, including a course that focuses on literature for adolescents: this course highlights the uniquely adolescent themes that can often be found in any work of fiction, regardless of genre or subject. Through the use of novel pedagogies (including the integration of problem-based learning) John encourages his students – many of whom will be secondary education teachers – to consider and explore the “teen themes” that can be found in any work of fiction, and to thus specifically interpret these texts for a younger audience. Through his teaching and research, John is also interested in how technology – especially Web-based technologies – can further enhance the delivery of curriculum to both secondary and post-secondary students, across a broad spectrum of subjects and issues.

John received his B.A. in technical writing and psychobiology from Purdue University. In 1996, he was awarded an M.A. in English from Butler University. When not working, he enjoys spending time with his family that, along with two young boys, just happens to include a precocious twelve-year-old “pre-teen” daughter thus keeping John acutely interested and in touch with how young people are using technology to communicate with their peers and (it is hoped!) better communicate with their

Review

"Bhasker's book reveals a variety of situations where differences between simulation and synthesis semantics are bound to occur. These are carefully covered so that novice and experienced designers become aware of these hard to debug but, very common pitfalls" -- Carlos M. Roman, Bell Labs

"I find the book useful in illustrating examples of how the Verilog language may be used to design real and practical synthesizable models. It's also helpful that it warns the user of possible simulation/ synthesis mismatches. This clarifies the sim/syn issues for beginners." -- Jenjen Tiao, Lucent Technologies

"I've finished reading your book, I have to say I think you did an outstanding job ... I will be very comfortable recommending your book instead ... I really think this is your best book yet, good job!" -- Ken Coffman, VLSI designer

"Provides students and practicing logic designers with immediate access to well organized information about Verilog HDL synthesis. Easy to read and provides a large number of examples of synthesizable Verilog models" -- Vassilios Gerousis, Senior Staff Technologist, Motorola

"The book "A Verilog Synthesis Primer" is an excellent clear and concise guide for designing RTL synthesizable models in Verilog. It is an essential addition to design engineers' technical resourses." -- Douglas J. Smith, author of "HDL Chip Design."

"The example-driven driven approach used in the Verilog HDL Synthesis Primer makes it a valuable book for novice Verilog users." -- Egbert Molenkamp, University of Twente

"This book is ideally organized for teaching Verilog-based synthesis techniques, as it shows the reader not only what hardware results from various Verilog constructs, but how to tailor the Verilog to get the desired hardware. Copious pairings of examples with diagrams make clear the relationships between code and generated gates" -- Jim Vellenga, ViewLogic Systems

Book Description

With this book, you can:
- Start writing synthesizable Verilog models quickly.

- See what constructs are supported for synthesis and how these map to hardware so that you can get the desired logic.

- Learn techniques to help avoid having functional mismatches.

- Immediately start using many of the models for commonly used hardware elements described for your own use or modify these for your own application.
